Ink, Ale, and Stories
Gamebooks, tools, novels, and lore — all woven into a living world. The gate is open. The tower awaits. Turn to page one.

Welcome, Traveler

Welcome, traveller, to the Solo Scribe - a haven for solitary adventurers and solo gamers.

I created this site to house one of my life-long passions - gamebooks, bestiaries, interactive fiction, and tools for the solo adventurer alongside my own writings, novels and novellas, interwoven into a living, lore-rich world for anyone who wants to explore it.

If you've found your way here, you've likely already passed through the North Gate. Don't let the name confuse you - Inkwell's founder apparently had a peculiar sense of direction, or perhaps too much ale.

Here's what awaits you beyond the gate:

  • Gamebooks, CYOAs, and Interactive Fiction: Designed for the solo player wanting to chart their own path.

Whether you're navigating the twisting paths of Darkwood Forest, plumbing the depths of the Sunken Cathedral, or standing at the foot of the Scribetower with your breath ragged, these stories are part-novel, part-game. Roll the dice. Turn to the next page.
  • Tools & Utilities: Practical tools to aid you in your journey, whether it's gameplay or creation.

The Dice Roller sits ready in the Gearsmith Quarter alongside the Fighting Fantasy Companion and the NEXUS Gamebook Creator.

Need a bestiary? The Beastmarket has you covered with the Out of the Pit Companion (for Fighting Fantasy).
  • Novels & Novellas: Explore the lore-rich worlds through novels and novellas I've written, inspired by this world and beyond.

The Inkwell Inn is home to Alaric's Journal, which chronicles a solo scribe navigating the mysteries unfolding before him, as well as his relationships and personal growth.
  • Gamebooks: At the heart of this site lies the gamebook itself.

I've spent decades reading and collecting them, but I've also spent just as many writing my own. None have ever been published, however. Here, you'll find my personal gamebooks, written page by page, with branching paths, deadly choices, and twists that punish the careless and reward the bold.

Alongside them are gamebooks created by others - the classics that inspired me, the hidden gems I've unearthed over the years, and a collection of titles I'm simply proud to share. That's the plan and, as this site continues to evolve, so too will this section in particular.

And if you want to create your own gamebooks, the NEXUS Gamebook Creator is the place to start. Build your own branching narratives. Design your own monsters and encounters. Set your own traps.

Whether you're here to read, to play, or to build, the door is open. Just remember the words of an old scribe: Every story needs a traveller to tell the story.
